Cyclists in Bukono chiefdom showcased impressive talent as they battled it out during the preliminary cycling competition for coveted spots in the grand finale of the 2nd edition of the MTN Busoga Masaza Cycling competition for the year 2025.

On a scorching Sunday of screeching tyres, dust streaks, and revving bikes, cyclists raced with fascinating speed, causing ululation and cheers from onlookers who were staged on either side of the competition route.

The event, sponsored by telecommunications giant MTN Uganda, saw 11 races in Bukono Chiefdom competing in two categories: the Tippa (Maani ga Kifuba) and the Mountain Sports Bike category.

Cyclists were set off at the starting point by Busoga kingdom’s sports minister Amin Bbosa at Ivukula Police Post, racing a distance of over 75km through Kimenyulo, Mpande, Kamudoke, Lwatama, Idudi, Nakazinga Church, Kibaale-Namakoko, Kibaale sub-county, and back to the finishing point at Ivukula sub-county headquarters ground.

In the Tippa category, Kuluseni Latif and Rambo Yusuf stood out with impressive performances, both earning spots in the final with their first-place and second-place finishes, respectively.

In the Mountain Sports Bike category, Waiswa Isiko and Munyangala Furasiko emerged victorious, earning their spots in the final too.

During the awarding event, Bbosa urged riders to buy genuine cycling gear for safety, such as helmets and gloves, among others, to avoid disqualification.
