Defending Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) champions, Bukedea Comprehensive School, began the 2026 USSSA National U-20 Boys' Championship with a commanding start on Monday, cruising past their opponents on Day One.
The Bukedea district-based institution, which has presented two sides, Bukedea North and Bukedea South, recorded strong performances in both matches: a 4-1 win over newcomers PP Newton SS and a 1-1 draw against St. Mary's Boarding Secondary School, Kitende.
"Bukedea Comprehensive has come to compete, not just to participate in this championship. We are ready to show Uganda, whatever it takes, that we are the reigning FEASSSA champions from the games hosted in Kakamega County, Eastern Kenya," said Jonas Gumisiriza, the Resident Managing Director of Bukedea Comprehensive School (BCS).

According to Gumisiriza, the school lost the boys' and girls' football trophies to Amus College School during the zonal championship but has since corrected the mistakes identified at the zone.
Meanwhile, Kings College Budo, the national boys' football defending champions, began their title defense in commanding fashion, beating Teso College Aloet 2-0 in their opening Group A match as the national secondary schools football championship continues in Lira City.
"Getting the first win in such a competitive tournament is not an easy task, but I want to thank my boys for their spirited performance," said coach Magulu Ssemakula.
Ssemakula, who took over the coaching role at Budo SS from Richard Malinga (who left for Amus College School), is optimistic about winning the remaining group matches against Masindi SS and Kaserem SS.
"Our good luck started early during the Wakiso district qualifiers, where we finished third after losing to Kyadondo in a playoff on penalties, and also finished third in the zonal qualification," Ssemakula said.
