Buddu midfielder Pius Ssebulime wants to use this year's Masaza Cup edition to grow as a player by gaining enough experience to attract attention from Uganda Premier League clubs.

“The dream is to play Uganda Premier League football one day. I am working hard to make it happen, and this season at Buddu, I am going to use it as an opportunity to develop myself as a player,” Ssebulime said after scoring the opening goal in Buddu's 2-0 victory over Kooki at Masaka recreation ground.

Despite being a teenager and making a debut in this tough competition, Ssebulime bossed the midfield for Buddu and was voted man of the match.

He is attached to KCCA FC junior team, he was earlier this year summoned by Uganda U-20 head coach Jackson Mayanja in his provisional squad but failed to make the final team that traveled for the finals in Egypt.

Buddu's second goal was scored by Dickson Kigoye as they marked a perfect start to their quest for a third Masaza Cup trophy.

Both goals came early in the second after Kooki had resisted Buddu's threats in the opening half.

Buddu is under Simon Peter Mugerwa who won last year's edition with Busiro, beating Buddu in the final at Wankulukuku before crossing in May this year.

Elsewhere, other Masaza teams also started the campaign on a winning start.

Kyaggwe at Nakisunga Ssaza grounds in Mukono beat visitors Buluuli by 4-1 thanks to Yusuf Mukwana's brace, Mubarakah Mitala and Andrew Odongo adding a goal each to an exciting match.

Ronald Kaye helped 2021 runners-up Buwekula to pick up three important points on the road after his goal proved the winner against Kyadondo at Hormisdallen Primary School in Gayaza.

Two-time winners Ssingo registered a comfortable 2-0 home win over Bugerere through Yakin Muwonge and Emmanuel Ajjo strikes.

Record holders Gomba (five times) edged Ssese by 1-0 scored by Shafic Ssali at Kabulasoke Primary Teachers College in Gomba district.

Benon Niyonzima scored the lone goal of the match as Mawogola beat Neighbours Kabula in Ssembabule at Mawogola Ssaza grounds.

Busujju and Buvuma shared spoils in a 1-1 all-draw at Maanyi Ssaza grounds in Mityana.

Robert Nakabaale scored for Busujju whereas Pius Kamoga rescued a point for the Islanders from Buvuma through an equaliser.

2019 champions Bulemeezi playing behind closed doors because of a stadium ban for their violence last year against Buddu in the semifinals at Kasana Luweero grounds settled for a 1-1 draw with Butambala.

Match day two of the Masaza Cup continues this weekend on Saturday at different grounds.
