SC Villa's Uganda Premier League title ambitions were dealt a severe blow following their 1-1 draw against Soltilo Bright Stars on Sunday at Wankulukuku Stadium.

The Jogoos had a chance to close the gap between them and table leaders BUL (46), second and third-placed Vipers(45), and Kitara(44) but they failed as they remained fourth with 42 points. But SC Villa just like Vipers has a game in hand.

Like in their previous games, Villa were so wasteful and this is an area coach Dusan Stonjanovic has to improve.

"This has cost us points but we shall continue to try and improve. The boys played well but we're not just clinical. We also had lapses in defence that would have cost us all the points," noted Stonjanovic.

Bright Stars took the lead through Ashraf Mulindi's goal in the 60th minute off Shafik Kakande's assist.

Villa responded through Patrick Kakande's equaliser off substitute Abasi Kyeyune. There was a bit of protest from Bright Stars players and technical team towards the first assistant referee Happy Badru claiming the ball had not crossed the line.

For Bright Stars, they will have to be thankful to their goalkeeper Hassan Matovu who made several point-blank saves to keep his side in the game.

Their coach Joseph Mutyaba credited his players for giving their best.

"It was a hard-earned point, and we build from this in our next games. We played to our plan and expectations," noted Mutyaba.

The result saw Bright Stars remain tenth with 31 points.
