Boni Consilii Girls ended a three-year wait for the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ankole zone girls football title, with an emphatic 3-0 win over record winners Sheema Girls in a one-sided final at Ibanda Core PTC grounds on Sunday.

A well-taken free kick from Loyce Komugisha and a brace from second-half substitute Sheillah Mungutimu ensured victory for a much improved Isingiro district record champions.

The two teams were meeting in the final for the third consecutive time with Sheema Girls having twice beaten their opponents with a 1-0 win to lift the title but this time, Boni Consilii came out a determined side.

The first half ended with no side seeing the back of the net.

The introduction of athletic and quick winger Mungutimu quickly made a positive impact as her pace could not be marched before she was brought down just a metre away from the box, with Komugisha making no mistake from the set-piece before Mungutimu quickly added two more to put the game to rest.

“We have surely prepared ourselves mentally and physically to win this title that had eluded us in the past two finals, and we are happy that we have come out victorious and we shall work hard to ensure a decent finish at the national championship,” said team captain Shabellah Abahwera.

To reach the final, Boni Consilii eliminated Kyeizooba Girls with a 2-1 win, while Sheema Girls beat Shuuku Vocational 2-0 in the semifinals. However, all four teams qualified to represent Ankole at this year’s edition of the USSSA national games at Ndejje SS from April 26 to May 5.
