Suleman Sharif took a game-best 3/24 in 10 overs, including four maidens, as Tornado Bees defeated Kutchi Tigers by seven wickets Sunday at Entebbe.
The result not only changed the outlook of the standings, demoting Tigers from first to third position with GM Sugar and Bees moving to first and second position respectively, but it also opened up the thrilling hope of a three-horse title race in the CU Men’s 50 Overs Gold League.
Sugar, who defeated Aboojo at home by 167 runs, are tied on eight points with Bees, although both have played a game more than two-time defending champions Kutchi.
Tigers won the toss against Bees and opted to bat, a decision that quickly backfired. They were 1/15 in 6.2 overs after opener Avnish Vekariya was bowled by Jonathan Ssebanja and caught by Roger Mukasa. By the 24th over, they were 5/32 in 25.3 overs and then 9/59 less than four overs later.
Ssebanja would finish the contest with 3/13 in 10 overs, with four maidens, while Cosmas Kyewuta took 2/11 in 6.0 overs, including three maidens.
Bees would not drop the ball from there, with Anas Baig scoring a game-best 31 runs. Mukasa added an unbeaten 15 for Bees.
Meanwhile, Bhavikkumar Patel scored an unbeaten ton as Sugar claimed their fourth win in five games this season. Patel scored 102 off 112 to register the second individual century in the Gold division this campaign.
