Mercy Batamuliza will once again be at the heart of JT Lady Jaguars' campaign when they face UPDF Lady Tomahawks on Wednesday at the Jaguars Den in Kira.
The Lady Jaguars enter the contest riding high after an emphatic 80–47 demolition of KIU Rangers last weekend. Batamuliza delivered a game-high 31 rebounds and 14 points, along with five assists, to power her team to a commanding victory.
"We have to keep our energy high, defend as a unit, and make every possession count. If we stay focused and execute our game plan, we can compete with any team in the league," Batamuliza said.
JT Lady Jaguars currently occupy fifth place in the NBL Women's League with nine points from five games, registering four wins and one loss. Their dominant performance against KIU Rangers saw them explode out of the gate, outscoring the visitors 31–14 in the first quarter with sharp shooting and high-energy defense that forced turnovers. By halftime, the Lady Jaguars had extended their lead to 53–21, effectively sealing the game early. They maintained control through the second half to finish 80–47.
Supporting Batamuliza in the win were Brenda Kayaga and Maimuna Nabbosa, who contributed 14 and 12 points respectively, while Rhoda Nagitta joined Batamuliza with five assists each. For KIU Rangers, Ines Kanyamuneza scored 17 points and Sharon Kirabo added 15 points with seven rebounds and four assists in a valiant effort.
Wednesday's fixture against UPDF Lady Tomahawks carries significant weight for JT Lady Jaguars. A victory could see them climb the table and close in on the top four, while a loss could leave them vulnerable to falling further behind in a competitive league.
The Lady Tomahawks currently sit fourth with 10 points from six games, making them a tough opponent with strong playoff aspirations.
