Timothy Kisiga and Desire Ayera are the two dependable players who have returned to the Rugby Cranes Sevens team for the first round of the Challengers Series in Dubai after missing the last two outings including the Africa Sevens in Harare, Zimbabwe, and Safari Sevens in Nairobi, Kenya.
Kisiga missed the celebrations due to work commitment, while Ayera was nursing a shoulder injury that he sustained during the national sevens in Jinja.
The injury saw Desire Ayera visiting the surgeon’s room.
“The two players are experienced for this kind of tournament and are a big inclusion on the team,” head coach Tolbert Onyango stated.
Others on the team are Captain Ian Munyani, Pius Ogena, Davis Shimwa, Isac Massangazira, Adrian Kasito, Alex Aturinda, Aaron Ofoyrwoth, William Nkore, Roy Kizito and Denis Etwau.
Onyango also commented on the absence of Philip Wokorach due to his club's big engagements in France.
“Wokorach is a good player and his absence is being felt, but we trust in every player that is here,” Onyango explained.
Ian Munyani returns after missing the Safari Sevens due to work commitment and for Roy Kizito, a good performance in Nairobi forced Onyango to trust him again.
“Every chance I am given, I have to use it delightfully,” Kizito said.
Nile Special Brand Manager Joel Galla explained the commitment they have for Rugby this year.
“Surely this is a big year for Uganda’s Rugby, our commitment is to see that the teams shine to the fullest by giving out the necessary support,” Galla said.
In Dubai, Uganda is in Group C with familiar opponents Kenya, Germany, and Mexico.
Meanwhile, Janati Nandudu has replaced Emily Lekuru on the Lady Rugby Cranes Sevens team travelling to Dubai.
Lekuru pulled out of the team at the last minute due to work commitments.
In Dubai, Lady Rugby Cranes are in Group A with Belgium, Papua New Guinea, and Thailand.
