Anyama fires KCCA to first win of the season against Kataka

Emmanuel Anyama scored the decisive goal as KCCA FC secured their first win of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League (UPL) season with a 1-0 victory over Kataka FC at Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Wednesday.

Anyama struck in the 58th minute, finishing off Sammy Ssebaduka’s low cross after Kataka’s defence failed to clear the danger.

Ssebaduka’s delivery found its way across the face of goal, leaving Anyama with a simple tap-in as KCCA finally ended their wait for a goal this season.

The result will come as a relief to KCCA head coach Brian Ssenyondo, whose side had endured a difficult start to the campaign, collecting just one point from their opening three matches.

The Kasasiro Boys had suffered identical 2-0 defeats to NEC FC and Express FC before being held to a goalless draw by newly promoted Kigezi Homeboyz.

KCCA dominated possession for large spells in the first half but struggled to turn their control into clear-cut chances.

They were, however, fortunate not to fall behind as Kataka forward Ali Ssentamu wasted two excellent opportunities after being played through on goal with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Ssentamu fired wide on both occasions, allowing KCCA to go into the break level.

KCCA also came close to breaking the deadlock, with Ibrahim Kasule unlucky to see his effort strike the crossbar in the 41st minute.

Anyama and Ssebaduka also had opportunities, but neither could trouble Kataka goalkeeper Solomon Okello.

KCCA increased the pressure after the restart as they stepped up their search for the opening goal.

Brian Jjara had an opportunity from Ssebaduka’s delivery, but it was Anyama who eventually found the breakthrough three minutes before the hour mark.

The goal changed the complexion of the game, with KCCA looking to protect their advantage while Kataka pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

The visitors came close twice in the final five minutes through Ssentamu.

His first effort appeared destined for the back of the net before KCCA defender Herbert Achayi got a crucial deflection to send the ball out.

Kataka continued to press in stoppage time, but KCCA goalkeeper Humphrey Oyirwoth produced an important save to deny Jose Denilson Da Silva’s powerful effort from distance and preserve the victory.

The three points lift KCCA's spirits after a frustrating opening to the season, while Kataka's maiden campaign in the top flight remains challenging.

The newcomers have now collected one point from their opening three matches, having suffered two defeats.
