Celebrations erupted across Ngora High School as students and supporters congratulated Amus College Schools’ boys for winning the 2024 USSSA Teso Zone qualifiers trophy on Sunday.

In a thrilling display of skills and determination, the Bukedea district-based school lifted the boys' trophy after defeating Kobulubulu SS of Kaberamaido district 1-0 at Ngora High School grounds.

Abdulrazak Musamiru scored the winning goal in the 40th minute.

“The victory was a testament of dedication and hard work amongst players, coaches, and the entire administration, more so Patrick Isiagi Opolot who is also MP for Kachumbala County,” Nimrod Kintu, the Amus College School head coach said.

According to Kintu, their focus now is to look at the national trophy this year having missed it last year in Fort Portal where the boys were eliminated in the semifinals.

Moses Edyangu, Kobulubulu SS assistant coach attributed his side's defeat to transport challenges which led to the team’s late arrival.

“Since we have the opportunity of travelling to Masaka for the boys' nationals, I have the confidence that the team will work well there,” Edyangu said.

“Amus College School's win represents more than just a trophy which the school won under the boy’s category, girls in the discipline of Football and basketball; it was a symbol of unity, perseverance, and the power of dreams,” said Patrick Opolot Isiagi, school proprietor.

According to Opolot, through passion and determination, they had overcome adversity to claim their rightful place among the region’s sporting elite.

“Victory of Amus School in the USSSA-Teso Boys Trophy serves as a shining example of the transformative power of sports, uniting communities, fostering talent, and instilling values that extend far beyond the playing field,” said Patrick Okanya, the Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony which was attended by political leaders, civil servants, and sports lovers.

Okanya encouraged the champions to raise the trophy high not only as champions but as ambassadors of hope and inspiration for all who dare to dream for the Teso region.

John Robert Osuu, the USSSA Teso zone president confirmed that Amus College School, Kobulubulu SS, Bukedea Comprehensive, and Ngora High Teso representatives at nationals are to be hosted by Masaka city. Amus College School, Onset SS, Bukedea Comprehensive, and Labira Girls will represent the girls in the games at Ndejje SS in Luwero district.
