Amus College School reach the last eight after seeing off Kenya 2-0 in their last Group G game.

The committed efforts of Uganda teams at the International Schools Sport Federation (ISF) Football World Cup in Dalian City, China, have paid off with Amus College School becoming the first team from Africa to storm the quarterfinals.

The USSSA Teso zone champions and national silver medalists reached the last eight after seeing off Kenya 2-0 in their last Group G game Tuesday.

A strike as fast as the first minute by Hakim Musabbah was added on in the 55th minute by a Davis Busuulwa goal to ensure the Ugandan side leads group G with seven points and a guaranteed slot to the quarterfinals of the event.

The Nimrod Kintu-coached side had opened the campaign with a 7-2 win over Chinese Taipei with Davis Busuulwa (3), Osamah Bakoole, Shafiq Wasangwa, and Bashir Mansur scoring the goals before playing to a 0-0 stalemate and Tuesday’s win ensured they topped the table with Kenya coming second on 6 points.

Amus could be joined by Bukedea Comprehensive School, who, after beating Turkmenistan 6-0 and Brazil 2-0, sit on the top of Group F but have to beat Germany in Wednesday's last group game to be assured of the top spot and a quarterfinal berth.

Godfrey Ssekibengo, who together with Martin Kibirige scored the goals that silenced Brazil, leads Bukedea goal scorers chat with 2 together with Elvis Ssekajugo whose double counted in the 6-0 win over Turkmenistan on Sunday and will be the reliable force against Germany.

St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) will instead play classification games after failing to make it to the top of Group E after 6-3 and 5-0 losses to New Zealand and Saudi Arabia, respectively, but already have positives in Noel Agasha, Elvin Ashaba and Aaron Ampe who scored against New Zealand.

In the girls’ category, Amus College is also hopes to make it to the quarterfinals and a successful outing against Czech Republic and Canada, will guarantee them the slot.

The services of Edna Wanda who scored a brace to guide them to a 2-2 thrilling draw against Brazil after having scored another brace in Amus’s 3-2 win over Nigeria in their tight Group C campaign, will be relied on still in their two decisive outings.

The event which started on Sunday and attracted over 40 teams from 40 countries will end this Sunday.
