Current National Rally Championship (NRC) leader Hassan Alwi Jr. has urged the motorsport governing body, the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), to prioritise Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the annual calendar.
The International University of East Africa (IUEA)-sponsored driver made the appeal following a CSR drive conducted in Gulu on Friday, October 9, 2026. Ahead of the Gulu Rally, the Central Motorsport Club (CMC), alongside several rally drivers, donated foodstuff to the Gulu Women with Disabilities Union.
This is the second time CMC has extended support to communities in the Gulu district. The club remains committed to continuing these community outreach programmes.
Alwi's call builds upon various community support initiatives previously organised by individual clubs such as UMOSPOC, MOSAC, and CMC. However, he believes these efforts need to be streamlined and expanded at the federation level.
Adopting Alwi's proposal could significantly boost the FMU brand, making it more attractive to corporate partners whose core missions align with charity and social impact. For Alwi, motorsport should be about more than just racing—it should actively uplift the communities that host it.
