Ahimbisibwe’s first foreign test begins in Iraq
The striker scored 14 goals and provided three assists in 27 league appearances during the 2025/26 season, becoming a key part of KCCA’s attack and winning the Golden Boot.

Ugandan striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe is set for his first foreign football experience after completing a permanent move from KCCA FC to Iraqi Stars League side Zakho Sports Club.
The move follows a strong first season at Lugogo, where Ahimbisibwe, nicknamed “The Hunter”, finished as the Uganda Premier League’s top scorer.
The striker scored 14 goals and provided three assists in 27 league appearances during the 2025/26 season, becoming a key part of KCCA’s attack and winning the Golden Boot.
Ahimbisibwe leaves Uganda with a chance to test himself in a new league and continue his development in the Iraqi top flight.
However, despite his individual success, he leaves KCCA without a trophy, something he considers his biggest regret.
“If there is one regret I leave with, it is that I did not win a trophy with this club. I wanted so badly to celebrate that moment with you,” he said.
Ahimbisibwe also thanked KCCA for helping him grow as a player and person.
He also praised the supporters for standing by him through good and difficult moments.
“And to the fans, thank you for loving me, supporting me, demanding more from me and making me feel at home. I will never forget that,” he added.
His 14 goals also put him among the KCCA players who have won the Uganda Premier League Golden Boot. The list includes Chris Ddungu, Jimmy Kirunda, Davis Kamoga, Frank Kyazze, Jackson Mayanja, Geoffrey Sserunkuma, Brian Umony, Herman Wasswa, Tony Odur and Shaban Muhammad.
Wagoina returns to Express
Elsewhere, Isaac Wagoina has returned to Express FC for a second spell after two seasons at BUL FC.
Wagoina joined BUL in July 2024 on a two-year deal from Express. Following the expiry of his contract last month, the Jinja-based club released him among 10 players.
His form attracted BUL, but he struggled to match that output during his two seasons with the Eastern Giants.
Before joining Express, Wagoina had also played for Busoga United in the Uganda Premier League.
He becomes the first player to be officially unveiled by Express, who are preparing for a rebuilding exercise under new coach Morley Byekwaso.
Bayo returns home
Meanwhile, Uganda Premier League side NEC FC have strengthened their attack with the signing of Uganda Cranes forward Fahad Bayo on a two-year deal.
The 28-year-old returns to Ugandan football after six years abroad, having last played in the local top flight during the 2019/20 season.
Bayo helped Vipers SC win the league that season before moving abroad, where he played for Israeli clubs FC Ashdod and Bnei Sakhnin, Czech side MFK Vyškov, and North Macedonian clubs KF Arsimi and Vardar Skopje.
