The Khanisa Tournament is set to bring together more than 52 churches in a sporting initiative aimed at promoting physical fitness, good health and talent development among Christians.
The tournament, scheduled to begin next year, was officially launched at Christ Heart Church in Kisasi, with organisers highlighting the role of sports in strengthening fellowship, encouraging healthy lifestyles and creating opportunities for young people.
The launch was graced by Confederation of African Football (CAF) coach educator Majida Nantanda, who called for fair play and encouraged women to take a leading role in the tournament.
“I encourage fair play throughout the tournament. Despite the game being competitive, it should be played fairly. By doing so, we shall have a good tournament,” Nantanda said.
She also urged women to position themselves at the centre of the competition, emphasising the importance of their participation and involvement in sports.
One of the tournament organisers, Michelle Kahoro, said the initiative was designed to give church members an opportunity to engage in physical exercise while identifying young sporting talent and opening doors to opportunities beyond the church community.
“The foundation of the game is to help church members participate in healthy workouts and exercise, but also to identify young talent and explore opportunities outside the church,” Kahoro said.
The competition will feature several sporting disciplines, including football, basketball and skipping rope, among other activities, providing participants with opportunities to showcase their abilities while improving their physical well-being.
With more than 52 churches expected to participate, the Khanisa Tournament seeks to use sport as a platform for unity, talent identification and community engagement, while encouraging Christians to embrace active and healthy lifestyles.
