4th round of National Motocross Championship delivers thrilling action at Garuga

The fourth round of the National Motocross Championship delivered thrilling action at the Garuga Motocross Track over the weekend, with riders battling fiercely for top honours and a chance to impress selectors ahead of the forthcoming FIM Africa Motocross Championship scheduled for August 14–16 in Namibia.

Among the standout performers was emerging youngster Ethan Musede, who captured the attention of fans after ending Jonathan Katende's dominance in the highly competitive 85cc category.

Musede, who recently intensified his fitness preparations through gym training, demonstrated the benefits of his hard work by winning two of the three heats and finishing ahead of his experienced rival.

His impressive display further strengthened his growing reputation as one of Uganda's brightest motocross prospects and a strong contender for national team selection.

The Musede family had even more reason to celebrate as Ethan's younger brother, Eadrik Musede, also produced a commendable performance in the 65cc class. Recently promoted to the category, Eadrik showed remarkable confidence and speed, proving a formidable challenge to more experienced competitors.

Another rider who left a lasting impression was Jamaira Makumbi. Fresh from graduating from the 65cc class to the 85cc Women Motocross (WMX) category, Makumbi dominated proceedings by winning all three heats. Her commanding performance delighted her father, Rashid Makumbi, who urged the federation to facilitate greater access to international competitions for the youngster.

According to Rashid, Jamaira has outgrown local competition and requires exposure at a higher level to continue her development and realise her full potential.

Elsewhere, Gift Sebuguzi continued his remarkable run of form and now appears firmly on course for the championship title. His consistent performances have placed him in a commanding position despite two rounds still remaining on the calendar.

The Garuga event served as a crucial assessment platform for riders seeking selection to Uganda's team for the FIM Africa Motocross Championship in Namibia. With competition intensifying across all categories, selectors are expected to have a difficult task identifying the final squad that will represent the country on the continental stage.
