Use social media responsibly, avoid sectarianism — Minister Muhwezi

RUKUNGIRI - Security minister Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi has urged youth to use social media responsibly by avoiding actions of sectarianism.
Muhwezi made a call during the swearing-in ceremony of youth and elderly leaders for Rukungiri district for the 2026-2031 term, insisting that instead, youth should use social media to learn, practise innovation, and entrepreneurship skills.

He asked the youth leaders to assist their fellows and elderly people to acquire funds from the government for socio-economic transformation.
At the same function, Muhwezi confirmed that they met as Rukungiri district Members of Parliament and agreed to work together during the five-year term of office for the development of their area.
During the event, the Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde, asked the Rukungiri district youth to utilise the two ministerial positions given to them by President Yoweri Museveni to bring development in the area.
He tasked them with using the government programs of Emyooga and Parish Development Model (PDM) for prosperity rather than fighting and discriminating against one another.
Jackson Ndyanimanya, the chairperson for Rukungiri district elderly persons, congratulated President Museveni for winning the January 15th 2026 general elections with a landslide victory and for appointing Muhwezi and Tumukunde as ministers.
“We as older persons, we are proud of Gen Tumukunde, who heads the ministry where we fall as old people. We hope to move with him in developmental programs,” he said, explaining that insecurity had been chased away in Rukungiri because the President gave them an energetic minister (Muhwezi) who has been preaching the gospel of peace and stability.
