A total of 7000 candidates were successfully taken through the competency test, for the positions of registration officers and assistants at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds,” the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has revealed.
According to NIRA, northwestern and northeastern regions are completely done with the interviews.
NIRA, however, states that the eastern region interviews have been ongoing simultaneously with Kampala, Wakiso, and Mukono, whose oral interviews commence next week.
“Cognizant of the need to be inclusive in fulfilling our mandate to serve and work with all Ugandans, we shall continue making deliberate attempts in the right direction to create, an enabling environment for Persons with Special Needs,” NIRA stated on (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
NIRA launched a recruitment drive to hire over 10,000 workers in late February, this year.
Last month, NIRA executive director Rosemary Kisembo said successful candidates, who will be stationed across the country’s 10,717 parishes, are expected to earn approximately shillings 500,000 for each of the 10 months.
The recruitment drive is part of a broader effort to provide national ID cards to Ugandan citizens, especially those who missed out during the initial launch of the exercise.
Kisembo noted that only 27 million out of the estimated 45 million Ugandans have acquired national IDs. Funding gaps had previously hindered NIRA’s ability to enroll an additional 17.2 million people.
In a bid to address funding challenges, the finance ministry released shillings 192 billion to kickstart the national identification renewal project.
