Legislator Jimmy Akena, former Mayor George Kagimu, and rally driver John Burrows Lumu face-off in the battle for the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) top job in the elections on Wednesday, May 1.

The three are contesting for the post of president to replace outgoing Dipu Ruparelia.

Akena, the Uganda Motocross Club (UMX) president, and Kagimu, a UMOSPOC member and former FMU president head into these polls as favourites, however, will face stiff opposition from Lumu.

The trio have all promised better administration, transparency, and accountability, and also foster good governance that will restore peace and stability in the sport.

“I am ready for the polls. We had a good presidential debate on Sunday and I hope the delegates are ready to make the right decision by entrusting me with the federation leadership,” Kagimu told Vision Sport.

Kagimu, a former rally driver, former Mayor of Mukono Municipality Mayor, and an FMU boss from 2009 to 2012 after replacing David Bitalo has vast experience in managing sports.

Kagimu notes that his close friendship with the FIA administration, especially the president places Uganda in a better position to lobby for more funding to supplement government support.

On the other hand, Akena as a legislator, is also well-positioned to lobby for the increase of sports funding

Lumu is also focused on the driver’s welfare, increased sponsorship, and transparency.

Former vice president in the Dusman Okee administration Hamidu Gombe faces off with Hans Sserujogi for the post of vice president.

Arthur Blick Jr, George Semakula, and Darbella Apolot face off for the post of deputy vice president of Motorcycling.

Joshua Mayanja and Reynold Kibira are unopposed as Deputy vice president in charge of rallying and General Secretary respectively.

The same is Jackson Sserwanga assistant secretary and Angela Semukuutu as deputy vice president vintage.
