When he started his address to the 19th Summit of Heads of States and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Friday, the outgoing chair asked the meeting to observe a moment of silence for the forum's leaders who have passed away since the 2019 summit in Baku, Azerbaijan.

On Friday, Jeyhun Bayramov, the minister of foreign affairs and head of delegation of Azerbaijan and out-going chair of the NAM, chaired the opening of the meeting that led to handing over the chair to President Yoweri Museveni.

Bayramov represented the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

In his address, Azerbaijani foreign affairs minister Bayramov then gave a report on the activities of NAM from 2019-2024.

He said that the future will present as many challenges and opportunities as the past and that the movement must continue to remain strong, cohesive and resilient in order to address them and preserve the historic legacy of the movement.

"The continued relevance and validity of the movement will depend, in large measure, on the unity and solidarity of each of its member countries as well as their ability to influence these changes positively," said the outgoing chair representative.

"In this regard, the process of the revitalization and strengthening of the movement must continue to be proactive, advanced and consolidated."
