Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has advised the Government to work with the public to curb the emerging insecurities in the country.

The party's spokesperson, Sharon Arach Oyat, said the recent attacks on security installations such as police posts and army barracks can be neutralized if there was a good working relationship with the public.

At the weekly press conference at their head offices in Kampala on Wednesday, Oyat urged that criminals are part and parcel of society as our children or friends and do hide/ conceal themselves in societies.

This has come in the wake of the recent attacks on the police stations across the country. On October 31, a group of armed assassins shot and killed two police officers on duty, injured two others, and robbed two guns.

Recently, Nakulabye police station was attacked, but an officer on duty discharged bullets towards an alleged attacker that was approaching the station. He was forced to flee, abandoning a firearm with five rounds of ammunition.

“The continued attack on men and women in uniform at police stations and army barracks as well as Wanton killings of citizens is much worrying and wondering what is left of the common man and his property,” Oyat said.

She called upon the government and all her investigative agencies like Criminal Investigative Department (CID)/ Special Branch, Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and Internal Security Organization (ISO) among others to intensify efforts in the search for those who commit such adverse crimes and be brought to book.

HIV Awareness

Oyat also said that as the country joins the world to commemorate the coming of World AIDS Day, there is a need to improve awareness about HIV among Ugandans.

This she explained will guide people on how to prevent the spread of the disease, its treatment and care for those who are affected without being stigmatized.

“Through scientific research, people with HIV in Uganda and the rest of the world can enjoy longer, healthier lives by taking proper medication while following the precautions which has reduced the spread of the disease to others,” she said.
