KAMPALA - Uganda peoples Congress (UPC) mouthpiece Sharon Arach Oyat has commended the Government for introducing digital stamps.
Addressing the media on Wednesday (May 26, 2021) at the party head office at Uganda House in Kampala, Arach said the introduction of digital stamps for all agro-inputs entering the country is a great achievement that will steer the country to development.
Arach said this will be one of the ways to fight counterfeits, however, tougher measures must be taken to curb corruption and bribery at the entry points.
She noted that it will not make sense to purchase a billion-shilling machine and still have counterfeit inputs in the country due to bribery and corruption.
She said since the elections are done, the newly sworn-in members of Parliament (MP) should restore Uganda’s corporate image because most of the former MPs had forgotten about their core role that took them to parliament.
“The 11th Parliament should take all the necessary steps to restore the corporate image of Parliament and all decisions and laws should be made so that they can benefit all Ugandans,” Arach said.
MPs should know that every decision they make affects the livelihood of Ugandans both positively or negatively so they should desist from the commercialisation of the activities of Parliament, she added.
Arach said UPC has always advocated for unity, peace, reconciliation, and dialogue, but the entire election process affected the relationship that was initially built.
“You must put all this behind and be focused on their common interest of the people that voted you into power. Work must resume so that you can implement the manifestos and fulfil the promises that you made during campaigns. Put the differences aside and work together as a team for the benefit of the common man,” Arach urged the MPs.
She congratulated Jacob Oulanyah and Anita Among on being as elected Speakers of 11th Parliament. She urged the MPs to get back to the drawing board and place their focus back on the things that affect the country.
Arach also cautioned the 11th Parliament not to forget their four core roles which are legislation, budget approval/appropriation, oversight, and representation.
