Why President Museveni is returning to Kasese

Shortly after addressing a large gathering at Nyakalengigyo village in Ibanda Kyanya town council, Kasese district, State Minister for ICT and National Guidance Godfrey Kabbyanga confirmed that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to visit the district on January 12, 2026.
President Museveni, who is the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate in the January 15, 2026, general elections, last visited Kasese district on December 4, 2025, when he mobilised support and addressed a rally at Nyakasanga playground in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality.
Kabbyanga said the President’s return is intended to commission several infrastructure projects in Bukonzo County East and Busongora County North, noting that the visit will also give the government an opportunity to account to the public for the investments made in the district.
The junior ICT minister urged residents to support the visit regardless of political affiliation, describing it as a way of appreciating the multi-billion-shilling projects implemented to spur economic growth across Kasese district.
"Think about the stable peace and security we are enjoying nowadays? market access, Emyooga, Parish Development Model, free education and healthcare provision, things that are paramount for our livelihoods." Kabbyanga emphasised.

He also tasked National Resistance Movement leaders in Kasese to mobilise residents and clearly communicate the party’s agenda for the next five years, calling on them to rally support for all party flag bearers.
What others said
Nyakalengigyo village hosts thousands of tourists who visit the area to hike the Rwenzori mountains, including those aiming to reach Margherita Peak. Kasese deputy resident district commissioner Lt Maate Magwara urged residents to maintain peace in order to attract more visitors.
Damian Muthwanda, a resident of Kyanya village in Maliba town council, commended the government for constructing what he described as a major bridge project that has eased transport challenges.
"We used to struggle transporting our agricultural produce to several markets after the former bridge being washed away by floods of River Mubuku," Muthwanda said.
At the same function, 450 people reportedly defected from opposition parties, including NUP, PFF and FDC and joined the NRM.
