_______________
President Yoweri Museveni, the ruling NRM party flagbearer for the 2026 General Election, continued his presidential campaign trail in the Lango region Thursday, October 2, 2025, with rallies in Alebtong and Otuke districts.

The President was met with massive turnouts and calls from residents to address long-standing infrastructure and service delivery challenges.
At the Booma Grounds in Alebtong, Museveni received a thunderous welcome from jubilant supporters as he entered the venue accompanied by a high-level delegation of NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) members.

Among them was Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among (second national vice-chairperson (Female)), NRM vice-chairperson for Northern Uganda Hamson Obua and the party secretary general Richard Todwong. Ministers, Members of Parliament, and local leaders also joined the campaign entourage.

Museveni is on his second day of campaigns in the Lango region, where he is outlining his 2026–2031 vision, centred on consolidating peace, expanding infrastructure and strengthening wealth creation programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).
Meanwhile, at Orum Primary School playgrounds in Otuke, crowds clad in yellow filled the grounds and surrounding roads hours before the President’s arrival, reflecting growing anticipation for his fourth rally in the region.

Speaker Among, already in Otuke to rally voters, urged the people to vote for NRM candidates and return Museveni to the presidency.
“The President we have brought for you is the one who brought peace in Uganda. There were no roads, no health centres, but now there are wealth creation programs like the Parish Development Model. Kindly bring back the NRM candidates to Parliament,” she told the excited crowd.

Demands for roads, hospital and cattle compensation
Despite the electrifying atmosphere, Otuke residents used the opportunity to voice urgent concerns. Poor road infrastructure and the absence of a district hospital topped their list of demands.

Otuke town council vice-chairperson Stella Amolo said the current state of the Lira–Otuke–Abim road was hampering mobility, while Orum Health Centre IV was overstretched and ill-equipped to serve the district and neighbouring areas.
“I am calling upon President Museveni to consider our request, because doing so will save many lives,” Amolo said.

Amony Stella, a district councillor, added that the growing population had overstretched health services, making it imperative to upgrade Orum Health Centre IV into a district hospital. She also reminded the President to fast-track cattle compensation for families who lost livestock during past insurgencies.
“We welcomed his initiative of compensating every household. Let him act on it as soon as possible, because it’s a demand from everyone,” Amony emphasised.

On her part, Florence Akello, a resident of Ogor sub-county and chairperson of the Can Omia Diro Women’s Group, appealed to the President to extend support to women-led Shea butter businesses.
“We have tried to grow our Shea butter business, but we’ve never received help. We hope the President can support our efforts to improve livelihoods,” Akello said.
