President Yoweri Museveni has urged all National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leaders and supporters to check their names on the Electoral Commission (EC) voters’ registers and assist in updating them in preparation for the 2026 elections.
Museveni, who is also the national chairman of NRM, told the party members on Tuesday (January 7) that the EC has already announced the electoral roadmap for the general elections in early 2026.
“This process begins with the verification and update of voter registers. I urge all NRM leaders and supporters to check that your names are on the registers and assist in updating them by removing deceased individuals and adding new voters who have turned 18,” he said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter.
In the last general elections, registered voters were slightly over 18 million, but the EC now projects them to be over 24 million in 2026.
The EC kicked off the voters’ registers verification and update on Tuesday, January 7, and the exercise will end on January 10, 2025.
“The registered voters’ names will be displayed at every polling station in Uganda so that we all go and check in order to ensure that our names are on that register. This is the verification to confirm that your name and the names of the people who you know in your area are on the register,” Museveni said.
Additionally, he said, that young people who have turned 18 years of age should be registered to vote.
EC roadmap
