Unopposed Kiruhura MP rallies former rivals to support Museveni

Unopposed Kiruhura District Woman Member of Parliament (MP) Ruth Rujoki Mushabe has appealed to former rivals and all leaders to rally behind President Yoweri Museveni to secure victory with a bigger margin in the 2026 General Election.
Rujoki was last week declared unopposed as the Kiruhura District Woman MP, setting a new precedent as a newcomer by sailing through to the 12th parliament.
Following the news, Rujoki has come up with an official statement commending her former rivals, including incumbent MP Jovanice Twinobusingye, for exhibiting what she terms as discipline, maturity, dedication and loyalty to the NRM party, and decided not to stand as independent candidates after losing the party flag in the primaries.
Rujoki was declared the NRM flag bearer after winning the party primaries with 24,757 votes (50.3%) against her closest rival Twinobusingye who obtained 21,205 votes (43.1%). Others in the race were Savina Ninsiima, Caroline Mwijuka Amutuhaire, and Allen Kagina Natukunda.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to my fellow NRM leaders and colleagues who participated in the primaries and chose loyalty to the NRM by not standing as independents,” she said, adding that their dedication to the NRM cause had strengthened unity in the district and set an example of what she termed as true patriotism.

Rujoki said her supporters' overwhelming support and trust that had given her an unopposed nomination was a clear sign that Kiruhura will continue to stand united in vision, purpose and commitment to progress.
“This is not just my victory, it is our collective triumph as a district determined to grow, prosper and protect the gains we have worked so hard to achieve”.
“I call upon each of you to join hands with me in developing Kiruhura district,” she said.
In the message, Rujoki called upon fellow leaders to bring their ideas and commitment together targeting to cause transformation in the district through creating new jobs, improving services, empowering communities and uplift households through implementing the NRM party manifesto for sustainable growth and development.
“Together, we shall make Kiruhura a model of unity, progress and development in Uganda,” she said.
Rujoki originally worked with the Uganda Revenue Authority before venturing into private business, where she has been engaged in producing products like creams, soaps, mosquito repellants, and toilet sanitisers.
Her husband and chief campaigner, businessman Dan Mushabe, the President of Mwiri Old Boys Association (MOBA), said they would remain indebted to all the NRM supporters for their overwhelming support and setting a record by showing trust and support a new comer in the race.
He said they would dedicate their efforts to ensuring all NRM sweeps all the parliamentary seats and other positions in the local Governments.
