Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo (independent) has been nominated to contest in the 2026 parliamentary race, as he seeks to extend his 25-year tenure.
Ssekikubo, who lost to Brigadier General (rtd) Emmanuel Rwashande of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the party primaries, was cleared on Thursday, October 23.
He left Lwemiyaga at 9:00 am amidst a jubilant procession up to Ssembabule Town Council, where his chanting supporters were intercepted while proceeding to the district headquarters.

Ssekikubo told the media after his nomination that he had explained to President Yoweri Museveni the suffering he endured during the NRM party primaries, where he said he lost due to what he described as election impunity.
He noted that the military deployment influenced the elections and caused the death of his supporters.
He regretted that security agencies misinformed President Museveni about the election mess in Lwemiyaga during the primaries.
“Up to now, President Museveni still believes that the young man Robert Ssembusi, who was shot dead by soldiers, attempted to disarm one of them, which is not true,” he said.

Ssekikubo assured voters that he is going to defeat Gen. Rwashande.
“I will return to Parliament by all means because I have the backup of the voters,” he said.
However, Gen. Rwashande mocked Ssekikubo, saying he has nothing visible to show for the 25 years the voters have elected him.
