BUYENDE - In the bid to strengthen political support for her husband, Moses Magogo, the Speaker of Parliament, Annet Annita Among, has pitched camp in Budiope East, Buyende district, to canvass support for him.

For seven days, the (Among and Magogo) pitched camp in Budiope East, from dawn to dusk, interacting and pleading with voters to allow Magogo to serve them another term.

The Bukedea Woman MP, on Wednesday, told voters that her presence in Buyende was a sign of love, solidarity and submission to her husband and being passionate and benevolent to voters.

Among said she will remain in Buyende until Magogo is elected the NRM flag bearer for Budiope East MP.

“Now that I was unopposed in Bukedea, I am going to pitch camp here until my sweetheart, Hon. Eng Moses Magogo, is declared winner,” she said, while addressing leaders and NRM Special Interest groups from 6 sub counties at her swanky pad in Naliina Village, Kagulu Sub County, on Wednesday.

Popularly known as Musisi (earthquake) or Ow’ebikolwa (Man of action), Magogo is facing off with the former MP, Geoffrey Dhamuzungu, aka Tweriire ssente (let’s splash money) and Daniel Mulirire, aka “Uncle Dan,” a Senior Police Officer and Lawyer at the Police headquarters in Kampala.

Campaigns fired up 

Flanked by Magogo, the Speaker’s week-long errands featured her convoy snaking through the six sub-counties, meeting and greeting mammoth crowds, sharing developmental ideas and appointments with them.

While at a fundraising drive at Bugaya Catholic Parish, the speaker went to the extent of kneeling down, pleading to the voters to give Magogo another term.

While addressing the huge crowds at Bugaya Sub County grounds on Thursday, Among said she’s aware Magogo has served beyond self, and will continue doing so, come 2016-3031.

Her message in the townships of Irundu, Kitukiro, Mpunde, Ngandho, Gwaase, Naloose, Nabikisi, Igwaaya, Wagaawaga, Nakabira, Buyamba, etc, was loud and clear, packed in parcels of Unity, teamwork, setting up interventions to generate household income to reduce poverty.

Sharif Isabirye, the  Bulangaire LC1 Chairperson in Kagulu Sub County, said that the way Among has fired up  the campaigns portrays her ardent love and submission to Magogo, adding,” A wife who stands with her spouse in thin and thick, is the best life partner  to live with ever.”

At Irundu Township, Among pledged to support the women, the block voters, with money economy systems to enable them educate the girl child, herself being a girl child.

“Women shall be empowered to generate income in backyards, Savings and Loan Associations (VISLAs) shall be formed and empowered financially, to enable women access loans with soft interest,” she said.

Excited by the big women turning up at the rallies, Among showered them with presents, including the gomes fabrics they take home, happily chanting.

Among pledged to support the education sector through doubling fold the number of internal and external bursary beneficiaries.

Magogo has since 2021 offered 300 internal and external bursaries to needy bright students, some of whom are to write their “O” Level Exams this year.

Pleading to voters to give Magogo a second term, Among named some of the latter’s service delivery, ranging from distribution of solar systems to all primary and secondary schools, construction of dormitories in schools, harvesting the Cariba weed from six landing sites to ease fishing and the grading of access roads and grading access roads.

She mobilised the "Magogo’s fundraising drive" which fetched sh.125m that built the maternity ward at Bugaya Health centre 1V.

He also bought two Land Cruiser ambulances and five tri-cycles (Tukutuku) ambulances to relocate patients from the villages near and distant health facilities.
