T
he Teso Parliamentary Group (TPG) has elected a new executive to lead the caucus, with members pledging to strengthen unity among legislators and advance the development agenda for the Teso sub-region.

The new leadership was elected on July 7, 2026, following a vetting process overseen by a committee chaired by Jeje Odongo, the Member of Parliament for Orungo County.

The committee comprised Vice President Jessica Alupo, State Minister for Teso Affairs and Kalaki County MP Dr Clement Kenneth Ongalo Obote, energy state minister and Kumi County MP Sidronius Opolot Okaasai, Soroti City West MP and NRM national vice chairperson for eastern region Calvin Echodu, and Kasilo County MP Peter Paul Emaju.

Kanyum County MP Simon Peter Opolot was elected chairperson, replacing former Usuk County MP Bosco Okiror, who lost his parliamentary seat to NRM's Richard Ongorok.

Serere County MP Emmanuel Omoding was elected vice chairperson.

Speaking after his election, Opolot pledged to provide inclusive leadership and promote unity among legislators to accelerate development in Teso.

He said his leadership would focus on strengthening collaboration within the parliamentary group while advancing the interests of the people of Teso.

Kasilo County MP Peter Paul Emaju was elected secretary general, while Kaberamaido MP Alfred Elalu Edakasi became treasurer. Kumi District Woman MP Christine Apolot was elected publicity secretary.

Tororo South MP Fredrick Angura and Kaberamaido District Woman MP Jane Francis Amongin will oversee cultural affairs, while Bukedea County MP David Beecham Okwere will head investment affairs.

Emaju said the new executive would immediately begin establishing a strong operational framework for the parliamentary group.

He said the executive plans to develop governance documents and a comprehensive five-year parliamentary strategy to guide its activities and coordinate legislators' efforts in addressing the region's key development challenges.

Members of the newly elected executive also pledged to serve diligently and prioritise the interests of the people of Teso.

Emaju said that once the group's governance structures are fully established, the executive intends to engage President Yoweri Museveni on key issues affecting the sub-region and seek greater government support.

Addressing the legislators, Vice President Alupo urged both outgoing and incoming leaders to work together and set aside political differences in the interest of regional development.

She warned against the divisions that characterised the previous leadership, saying unity among Teso legislators is essential for achieving meaningful development while addressing the needs of the people regardless of political affiliation.

“Be leaders that the population will be happy with, so that it makes them sustain their legacy in your constituency and also secure confidence for other subsequent elections. It’s very important that at this stage we continue searching and researching ourselves so that we move in the right direction but also be quite connected with the government so that they can welcome the programs positively and transform themselves,” the Vice President said.

She also urged the legislators not to discriminate against members of the public outside the campaign period and instead focus on delivering transformative messages to their communities.
