A total of 16 National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament are contesting for four top positions on the party's Parliamentary Caucus Executive Committee, with elections scheduled to take place today, Sunday (July 5).
The elections are being held during the NRM Parliamentary Caucus meeting at the Office of the President in Kampala and presided over by Tanga Odoi, the chairperson of the NRM electoral commission.



Flagbearers for the two vacant seats in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) are also set to be determined during the meeting.
President Yoweri Museveni serves as the party's national chairperson. The new executive is expected to steer the affairs of the ruling party's parliamentary caucus during the 12th Parliament, including coordinating members on legislative priorities and implementing party positions on matters before the House.
The most competitive race is for the position of vice chairperson, which has attracted eight candidates: Isaac Ismail Otimgiu (Kanyum County), Sarah Masereka (Kabarole District Woman MP), James Waluswaka (Bunyole West), Mastula Namatovu (Mpigi District Woman MP), Vincent Freedom Rusoke Kabuye (Kassanda South), Margaret Rwabushaija (Kagadi District Woman MP), Cohen Amanya (Igara West), and Margret Nazziwa Rujumba (Kagadi Woman MP).
The contest for general secretary has attracted two candidates: Miriam Mukhaye (Mbale City Woman MP) and Brenda Namukuta (Kaliro District Woman MP).



Three legislators are contesting for the position of publicity secretary. They are Christopher Komakech (Aruu North), Sarah Najjuma Namulondo (Buyende District Woman MP) and Derick Orone (Gogonyo County).
Meanwhile, four candidates are vying for the position of treasurer. They are Geniva Arinaitwe (Rubirizi District Woman MP), Constantine Okwi (Agule County), Annet Kiryungi (Kabarole District Woman MP) and Hope Grania Nakazibwe (Mubende Municipality).
