John Kusemererwa, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson for Kabarole district, has passed away.
He died on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, after several days of receiving treatment in Kampala.
Kusemererwa’s death was confirmed by Kabarole district chairperson Richard Rwabuhinga.
“Sad News, Abooki Kusemererwa John Young Passes On,” he wrote.
Kusemererwa was a prominent figure in the NRM, known for his active involvement in party affairs and his efforts to promote health initiatives among local leaders.
His passing has created a significant void in the party’s leadership in Kabarole district.
Tributes have poured in from political figures and members of the community, lauding his dedication to public service and his contributions to the ruling party.
Patrick Kamulindwa, chairperson of the NRM registrars in Uganda, described Kusemererwa as a soft-spoken, attentive leader who consistently promoted peace and teamwork.
“He has been a strong supporter and member of the NRM who has served diligently,” Kamulindwa said.
He also recalled Kusemererwa’s role as a morale booster during NRM meetings and events, often energising crowds with his signature chant: “Kabarole Yona, NRM Yonka (The whole of Kabarole, only NRM),” while waving a yellow cloth in the air.
Rev. Kintu Willy Muhanga, the former mayor of Fort Portal city, also expressed his sorrow over the news.
“We are saddened by his death, and the NRM leadership will miss his guidance,” Muhanga said.
