Other roads targeted include the tarmacking of the Otuke road, with plans to extend it further to Amolatar district.

The president was accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni and on arrival at Kaburepoli Primary School in Ochero sub-county, the NRM presidential candidate was received by the Speaker of Parliament, who is the second national vice chairperson (female) and other leaders.

The Kumam, who comprise the majority of the communities, are an ethnic group primarily located in the Teso and Lango sub-regions around Lake Kyoga and are closely related to the Iteso and Lango people, and majority are engaged in fishing and cultivation.

The president said this area once faced insecurity when rebels used to kidnap children from schools like Lwala Girls School, but he said that dark chapter ended long ago when the NRM restored peace across the entire country.

He said that out of 234 villages in the district, 217 now have access to clean water from boreholes, which translates to 91% coverage.

“We shall extend water to the remaining 17 villages,” he told the crowd and appealed to the fishermen to adopt responsible fishing practices, avoid using illegal fishing methods, and avoid catching immature fish to protect fish stocks and promote sustainable livelihoods.

“If we protect the young fish, we will have enough for the future,” he said, adding that the government would soon embark on helping communities to adopt commercial fish farming.

He emphasised that the NRM government was committed to its pillars of maintaining peace, development and wealth creation.

Mrs. Museveni earlier commended the NRM government for building a strong pillar of peace.

"I want to thank God for using President Museveni and the NRM government to build a strong foundation for our nation, Uganda, a foundation that has brought peace and stability to our great homeland," she said.

She reminded the people that on the voting day, they should all vote for the President and all the NRM candidates.
