NRM Dominates LC1, Women Council nominations in Nakawa Division
In Mutungo II Parish, a total of 20 candidates were nominated, 13 belonging to the NRM party, six independents, and one candidate from the Democratic Party (DP). No candidate was fronted by the National Unity Platform (NUP) in the entire parish, according to the EC results.

Majority of the candidates for Local Council 1 (LC 1) seats and Women Councils nominated in Nakawa Division within Kampala City are members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), according to the Electoral Commission (EC) results.
In Nakawa Division, the nomination was conducted by the Electoral Commission Parish Election Officer, Abdul Rashid Mujungu, following the verification of residences, compilation of village voters' registers, and display of the registered names conducted between July 13 – 14, 2026.
In Mutungo II Parish, a total of 20 candidates were nominated, 13 belonging to the NRM party, six independents, and one candidate from the Democratic Party (DP). No candidate was fronted by the National Unity Platform (NUP) in the entire parish, according to the EC results.
Mutungo II Parish comprises 13 zones. Zone V1 is led by the incumbent, Jalia Namatovu, just like Zone XIII, which is led by the incumbent, Yusuf Baale. The two are unopposed.
In an interview with New Vision on Friday, Adam Kibuuka, the NRM candidate for Mutungo zone, said NRM has fronted candidates in all the 13 villages of Mutungo II Parish to compete with other opposition candidates at both LC 1 and Women Council elections.
Kibuuka, who is the incumbent chairperson, said he had stepped down but was asked by the community members to continue serving them since he had brought peace and security in the area.
"I spearheaded the upgrade of the Mutungo-Biina road, which had failed to be worked on for many years," he cited as another of his achievements.

Meanwhile, in Nsooba East parish within Kawempe Division, Herman Nakana, the incumbent LC1 chairperson and NRM flagbearer, in an interview New Vision, said; “My good leadership in the existing (NRM) government has achieved a lot more than opposition government initiatives in terms of improving people’s lives.”
Nakana added; “Since 2018 when I assumed office, a lot has been delivered through my collaboration with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in terms of development. We have been able to bring piped water for the community, which some residents are now using to generate income for their families.”
The EC has set July 23, 2026, as the polling day for Women Council Elections across Uganda, while the LC1 elections will be held on July 28, 2026, across the over 71,000 villages countrywide.
According to the EC chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, voting will be conducted by an open queue system, with voters lining up behind their preferred candidates, their designated agents, or candidates’ portraits.
