The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has intensified its final push for votes in the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament by-election, with the party's Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja-Nsereko joining the campaign trail as the party prepares to host President Yoweri Museveni for a grand rally on Monday.
Speaking to journalists ahead of campaign activities across the island district on Thursday, Namayanja expressed confidence that the ruling party's flagbearer, Idah Nabayiga, will emerge victorious, citing strong grassroots mobilisation and unity among party structures.
She said the NRM leadership had come to appreciate party members and local leaders for the extensive mobilisation efforts undertaken throughout the campaign period.

"We are here to thank the people of Kalangala and the NRM leadership from the district level to the village level for the tremendous work they have done during this campaign. The grassroots mobilisation strategies spearheaded by our leaders, ministers and party officials have greatly strengthened our support across the district," Namayanja said.
With polling day drawing closer, she said the campaign had entered its final phase, focusing on village-level mobilisation ahead of President Museveni's scheduled rally on June 22.
"We are making the final touches to ensure that all villages are covered and that our supporters are fully mobilised for the President's rally on June 22. After that, our focus will shift to vote protection to ensure that every supporter turns up and casts their vote," she said.
Namayanja revealed that the party has developed a vote protection strategy that includes deploying agents to all 115 polling stations across the district to safeguard the vote and ensure supporters participate in the election.
She urged residents to elect NRM leaders, arguing that doing so would strengthen the district's ability to lobby for government programmes and services under the ruling party's manifesto.
"The NRM has a manifesto that will guide government programmes throughout this term. For Kalangala to fully benefit from these programmes, there must be unity of purpose among leaders so that they can effectively lobby for the priorities contained in the manifesto," she said.
The Deputy Secretary General also dismissed opposition claims that the ruling party intends to rig the by-election, describing the allegations as a sign of panic ahead of defeat.

"For me, those accusations are already a sign of defeat on the part of the opposition. We are here carrying out legitimate mobilisation. Similar claims were made during previous elections, yet the NRM's victories have consistently reflected the support we enjoy at the grassroots level," she said.
Namayanja attributed the party's confidence to its extensive grassroots network, saying village committees, youth leaders, women leaders, elders and other party structures had been actively mobilising support for Nabayiga.
She further commended NRM leaders in Kalangala for maintaining unity throughout the campaign, saying it had strengthened the party's prospects in the race.
"I want to thank the NRM leadership in Kalangala for the unity they have exhibited throughout this campaign. That unity alone is a major sign of victory and gives us confidence that the people of Kalangala will once again entrust the NRM with leadership," she said.
President Museveni's expected visit on Monday is expected to be the climax of the NRM campaign in Kalangala, with party leaders hopeful that his rally will further consolidate support for Nabayiga ahead of the by-election scheduled for June 24.
