MASAKA - President Yoweri Museveni excited a mammoth crowd of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party supporters on December 22, 2025, when he broke into a mock fistfight at a campaign rally in Masaka City.
This was in a show of strength to the Opposition leaders who are allegedly intimidating NRM supporters in Greater Masaka.

“Give me a report on who has intimidated a person. You are going to see the operation I am going to launch,” Museveni, 81, said, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.
“I am going to arrest whoever intimidates a Ugandan and put them somewhere. And if they want a fist fight, you are going to see the power that is here (clenches his fists and works out on a podium like he is on a treadmill),” he added, causing a great cheer from the crowd.

This was after Masaka City NRM Woman Memeber of Parliament contestant Justine Nameere raised concerns over voter intimidation in Greater Masaka, saying some locals were being threatened for attending the ruling party rallies.
Nameere, never a woman to mince her words, asked Museveni, who was listening attentively and noting down a few things, to take charge since he is the President and commander‐in‐chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces.

“Your Excellency, in your speech, talk about voter intimidation. You would have had a sea of people here. Your poor people are in villages being intimidated that if they dare to step here... They put up your posters and they destroy their houses. Police is not doing enough to help us,” Nameere said.
“Our grandfather, you are the commander-in-chief, take charge. We are tired of voter intimidation of NRM people that keeps them in their homes and they fail to go and vote. Take charge, my good boss and my good leader,” she added.

On December 18, 2025, Museveni launched his quest for votes in the Greater Masaka region, which was captured by the National Unity Platform party in the last general election.
The only districts where Museveni retained his dominance are Rakai, Lyantonde, Mubende, Sembabule, Kyankwanzi, Nakasongola, Nakaseke and Kiboga. He is now working tirelessly to regain the lost ground in this influential region.
