Hundreds of enthusiastic supporters have flooded the Kawanda Grounds in Nansana municipality today, January 6, 2026, as they await the rally of President Yoweri Museveni in the area.
The rally, part of the ongoing push ahead of the January 15, 2026, general election, has featured lively entertainment from musicians, including Mariam Ndagire and Fred Ssebaale, setting an energetic tone for the crowds awaiting the President's arrival before proceeding to Kawempe Division.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party's central executive committee leaders, including Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, have already arrived at the Kawanda grounds for the rally.
As candidate Museveni, the party’s flag-bearer, kicks off his campaign itinerary for the day, the event highlights the NRM's grassroots mobilisation in Wakiso, with yellow-clad supporters turning out in large numbers to hear messages of peace, stability and continued development.

Local leaders and community representatives seized the opportunity to praise the President's four-decade leadership while outlining key priorities they hope to see addressed in a potential next term.
Their statements reflect a blend of gratitude for past achievements and calls for more targeted support to vulnerable groups.
Thank you for supporting PWDs, elderly
Justine Kawuma Nanvubya, the chairperson for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Kyengera town council and LC3 councillor, expressed appreciation for the peace and support extended to PWDs.

“We thank the President for the peace and the support he has shown the PWDs,” he said, further urging for greater inclusion and support with wheelchairs, accessible buildings, roads with special provisions, and dedicated packages for PWDs.
Nakalema Florence, an elderly leader from Kyengera town council, thanked Museveni for reducing the age threshold for elderly support programs, noting the community's happiness with the change.
However, she called for additional measures, including a dedicated fund for the elderly, special hospital units, and health insurance to improve access to medication.

Nakintu Sarah, the women's leader in Busiro North Constituency, pledged continued support and prayed for the President's long life and success.
But she emphasised the need for more funding under the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the establishment of dedicated savings and credit co-operatives (SACCOs) for single mothers.
Positive impact of funds
On his part, Hajji Kasimu Kasasa, the chairperson of garage operators in Nansana municipality, highlighted the positive impact of government funds for those without formal education.
“We thank the President for remembering us and supporting us with a fund to support our work. We are generating income from our work and developing progressively,” he said.

He also advocated for the women cooks in garages to rally behind Museveni and requested skilling hubs in garages for nationally recognised certificates, plus a dedicated ministry for artisans and related workers.
With the elections less than two weeks away, the President's engagements in Nansana and Kawempe signal a strategic push to consolidate support in key battlegrounds that showed strong support for the opposition in the last general elections.
A Vision Group survey of 6,006 Ugandans of voting age, conducted between March and May 2025 across 45 districts and 17 sub-regions, showed that health was the leading concern in the central region at 17.4 per cent.

This was followed by road network and transport issues at 14.8 per cent, poverty at 10.0 per cent, education at 9.6 per cent, employment at 9.1 per cent, water and sanitation at 7.4 per cent, and national security at 7.3 per cent.
However, the NRM government has pointed to ongoing and planned projects as part of its response to these concerns.
In its 2026-2031 Manifesto, the NRM party promises to continue to conduct regular free and fair elections and continue to support special interest groups to participate in policy and decision-making at all levels, saying affirmative action will be promoted in all organs of government.
