MP Nambooze, Kiwanuka election petition hearing dates set

The High Court on Monday (September 14) set the dates for the hearing of election petitions against Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) Betty Nambooze and Mukono North MP Abdallah Kiwanuka.
The petitions were both filed before Mukono High Court Judge Godfrey Himbaza.
In a case filed by Daisy Nabatanzi against Nambooze, the judge set September 24, 2026, as the hearing date.

Through her lawyer Malik Kiberu of Tumukunde and Company Advocates, Nabatanzi argued that the election in which Nambooze was announced the winner was marred by vote rigging.
She, therefore, wants court to nullify it and organise a fresh election.
Nambooze was absent from court, but her lawyer, Medard Lubega Sseggona, attended and said his client has all the evidence that she won the seat and that they are ready to present the evidence before court.
Justice Himbaza also set September 21, 2026, as the hearing date of the election petition filed by Ronald Kibuule against the election of Kiwanuka as Mukono North MP.
Sseggona, who is also Kiwanuka's lawyer, said they are more than ready to defend his (Kiwanuka's) victory.
The mention of the cases allowed the court to address preliminary issues and give directions on how the respective cases will proceed.
The substantive allegations in the petitions will be determined through the court process, and the respondents will have an opportunity to respond to the claims made against them.
