Masindi District LCV Chairperson Cosmas Byaruhanga has withdrawn from the race for Masindi Municipality Member of Parliament.

The announcement was delivered on Wednesday by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among, during a campaign rally for the NRM presidential flag bearer, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, at Masindi Golf Course Grounds.

Speaker Among revealed that the NRM party leadership had engaged Byaruhanga and advised him to step aside in favour of Rogers Byamukama, the party’s endorsed flag bearer for Masindi Municipality. She said Byaruhanga had agreed to step down to support the party’s position.

Efforts to obtain a comment from Byaruhanga were unsuccessful by press time.

Byaruhanga, who has served as Masindi District LCV Chairperson for the past ten years, contested for Bujenje County in the NRM primaries, where he lost to the incumbent MP Kenneth Kiiza Nyendwoha before contesting as an independent candidate for Masindi Municipality.

In the race now remain Joab Businge, the incumbent and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flagbearer, Stephen Wandera of National Unity Platform (NUP), Rodgers Byamukama of NRM and Vincent Tumwesige, an independent.
