The National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership is stepping up mobilisation efforts in the Bunyoro region as President Yoweri Museveni prepares for a campaign tour from December 9 to 15, 2025. Officials say all arrangements are in place to host the NRM national chairperson.

Party leaders are calling for large turnouts, unity within NRM ranks and renewed emphasis on government wealth-creation programmes.

Dr Seninde Rosemary, the NRM Secretariat director for mobilisation, urged leaders in Bunyoro to maximise participation. She made the remarks during a pre-entry meeting held at Hoima Resort Hotel in Hoima city on Sunday (December 7).

Seninde highlighted the challenges posed by independent candidates, especially those who lost in party primaries.

"People who went in this vote of lining knew they would either win or lose. Why come back as an independent yet you lost in primaries?" she asked.

She appealed to independents to withdraw and support the official flag bearers, stressing that divisions threaten the President's support.

"Every time we divide ourselves as leaders, we divide the voters, and this automatically affects the President's vote. Let's support the flag bearer; let's not make the primaries useless," she said.

Seninde outlined the President's tour schedule, which includes rallies in Kyenjojo and Kibaale on December 9, Kiryandongo and Masindi on December 10, Buliisa, Hoima district and Hoima city on December 11, Kibaale and Kikuube on December 13, and a closing rally in Kakumiro on December 14.

She expressed confidence in an overwhelming NRM victory, citing visible government achievements.

"Opposition should get no chance in Bunyoro due to the achievements already reached," she said.

Seninde also called for transparency and calm throughout the election period, advising youths to avoid provoking security personnel.

Earlier, Jonard Asiimwe, the NRM national vice chairperson for western Uganda, urged residents to embrace President Museveni's message of wealth creation.

Addressing journalists, he underscored the importance of government programmes such as the Youth Livelihood Programme, Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM) in reducing poverty.

"President Museveni is putting all these programs such that people are in the money economy. 80% of the youth in Uganda are not contributing direct taxes because they're not productive," Asiimwe said.

He encouraged youths to prioritise productive ventures and called on local governments to strengthen revenue mobilisation by empowering communities to join the money economy.

He also urged leaders to safeguard development gains and warned political players against hate speech.

Asiimwe cited substantial progress in the region, including improved road infrastructure, Hoima city stadium, Kabalega international airport in Hoima and ongoing oil pipeline works.

He noted that door-to-door village campaigns have intensified, adding that all party structures have been mobilised to recruit additional mobilisers.

According to Asiimwe, residents are prepared to attend the various rallies following extensive mobilisation meetings and radio talk shows. He added that the NRM aims for President Museveni to secure more than 80 percent of the vote, based on the achievements recorded.

Local NRM leaders voiced confidence in the region's preparedness to welcome the President.

Kabakumba Labwoni Masiko, Masindi district NRM chairperson, assured national leaders of a strong victory.

Finance minister and Buyanja County MP Matia Kasaija echoed her remarks, pledging solid support from Kibaale and cautioning against activities that could undermine peace and stability.
