LUWERO - War veteran leaders in the greater Luwero region are to be equipped with motorbikes for use in vote hunting for National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag-bearer Yoweri Museveni.

According to the Luwero Triangle and Rwenzori state minister Alice Kaboyo, a total of 22 motorbikes have been procured and will soon be distributed to veterans zonal co-ordinators in the districts of Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola. She made the revelations over the weekend.

Relatedly, war veterans in the greater Luwero region have thrown their weight behind Museveni in his re-election bid by forming structures to back up his campaign team.

According to Brig. General Jacob Asiimwe, the veterans' leadership in the region, is to deploy 100 veteran campaign co-ordinators in each sub-county to reinforce the official campaign teams.

Asiimwe, however, said the veterans will not replace ,but will reinforce the official campaign structures.

Luweero, the cradle of the NRM, slipped into the hands of the Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) during the 2021 elections, and NRM party supporters are vowing to recapture the area during next year's elections.

According to Asiimwe, the veteran vote hunters are each targeting at least 100 votes to ensure Museveni achieves a decisive victory.

Museveni, on September 30, 2025, launched his countrywide campaign trail in Luwero, where he pitched camp while fighting the then UNLA government during the 1980s.

The NRM is shifting its strategy to rely primarily on existing grassroots and district-level structures to spearhead mobilisation efforts, moving away from the previous model of temporary, national task forces.
