Kigezi region ghetto youth pledge to mobilise for Museveni

“As ghetto youth, we are mobilising votes for President Museveni with the office of the Resident District Commissioner so that he wins by 100% in Kigezi region,” Asiimwe said.

As the 2026 General Election draws near, Kigezi region-based ghetto youth have pledged to mobilise votes for the NRM presidential candidate, President Yoweri Museveni.

According to youth president Musa Asiimwe, Museveni has been instrumental in establishing the Presidential skilling hubs initiative, where most of the ghetto youth have been skilled in bakery, mechanics, welding, carpentry, among others.

“As ghetto youth, we are mobilising votes for President Museveni with the office of the Resident District Commissioner so that he wins by 100% in Kigezi region,” Asiimwe said.

Asiimwe says the ghetto youth are determined to canvas votes for President Museveni to benefit from government programmes such as Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), which he claims they have never benefited from.

“The ghetto youth have been neglected, and yet the ghettos from Kampala have been given money. This time around, we also hope to benefit after President Museveni wins the 2026 general elections,” Asiimwe said.

The ghetto president made remarks during a campaign meeting organised by senior presidential advisor on agriculture and rural development, Peace Rugambwa, at Kabale Main Stadium on November 7, 2025.

Ghetto youth concerns

Asiimwe said the majority of the ghetto youth remain unemployed even after completing the skilling programme.

He, therefore, proposed that the Government should give them the startup capital.

They said their current office space is rented, and yet they don’t have money, depending on the little savings from those who are employed.

They claim that the Government has neglected them since 2016, but only concentrate on the ghetto youth from Kampala and urged to be brought on board to benefit from government programmes.

“I thank President Museveni for establishing the Presidential Skilling hubs initiative, but more needs to be done to help the ghetto youth who have been trained so that they don’t go back to the old habits,” ghetto youth vice president Martin Twesigye said.

Rugambwa assured the youth that President Museveni is concerned about uplifting the ordinary people like them out of poverty and encouraged them to register Savings and Credit Society Co-operatives and organisations (SACCOS) to benefit from government programmes.

Rugambwa appealed to them to canvas votes for President Museveni and not to be taken for a ride by Opposition politicians because he has done a lot for this country.

She informed the ghetto youth that President Museveni’s government has expanded the road network infrastructure, built more health and education facilities, and introduced universal primary and secondary education.
