In 25 photos, presidential candidates continue nationwide vote hunt

Almost a month since the presidential campaigns kicked off across the country, candidates have continued to traverse various sub-regions, canvassing for votes and presenting their manifestos to the electorate.

From Lango, West Nile, Busoga, Bugisu, Rwenzori, Bunyoro to Karamoja, the contenders are covering ground, each seeking to convince Ugandans ahead of the January 15, 2026, general election.

On Monday, October 28, several candidates were on the campaign trail across different parts of the country.

The incumbent, President Yoweri Museveni, began his day in Amudat District in the Karamoja sub-region. He has been in the area since last week, leaving no stone unturned as he spreads the NRM message to every corner.

National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu took his campaign to Alebtong and Otuke districts after entering the Lango sub-region late last week, following his tour of Bunyoro.

From visuals captured by our teams on the ground, both candidates attracted enthusiastic crowds. In Kyagulanyi’s camp, supporters followed on foot and motorcycles, joining the procession over long distances.

In contrast, Museveni’s rallies are typically organised in fixed venues, where large crowds gather from early morning, entertained by musicians and party leaders as they await the President’s address.

In Amudat, NRM supporters converged at Kalas Girls Primary School playground, where they were entertained as they patiently waited for President Museveni to arrive for his campaign rally.

Voters from all walks of life thronged the venue, visibly excited and dressed in NRM’s signature yellow T-shirts. Some danced, while others waved party flags high in the air.

As they waited, musicians kept the crowd lively with performances, while NRM officials and enthusiastic supporters joined in the dancing on stage, to the amusement and cheers of the audience.

Eventful, challenging and roasted maize

For NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi, the campaign trail was both eventful and challenging. The day began with his team determined to take their message to locals in Alebtong and Otuke districts.

He made several stopovers in trading centres, addressing enthusiastic crowds before moving on, racing against time and the day’s tight schedule.

Along the way to Alebtong, Kyagulanyi made a lighthearted stop at Akura Trading Centre, where he bought roadside roasted maize for himself and his security detail. He munched away cheerfully, much to the amusement of his supporters.

However, the journey wasn’t without setbacks. While crossing into Otuke, the team encountered a flooded Apak Bridge, forcing them to halt. Kyagulanyi briefly addressed supporters gathered at the bridge before turning back to find an alternative route.
