How Moses Ali helped Amin to capture power in 1971
Amin’s message to Ali was ordering them to travel to Malire Barracks and monitor the activities of pro-Obote soldiers. Ali and Doka hastily went to the Officers’ Mess (now Buganda Katikkiro’s residence, Butikkiro) and found that officers perceived to be anti-Obote were practically under arrest, waiting for an address from the commanding officer of Malire, Lt Col Augustino Akwangu. Exiting from the Officers’ Mess, Ali fooled the military guards that he was sent to deliver a note to Akwangu.
