MASAKA - A housewife has beaten Bukomansimbi deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Fred Pax Kalema in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party election in Masaka district.
Kalema, who recently resigned from his job to join the Bukoto East Parliamentary race in Masaka district and the former Central Youth MP, Babirye Kityo, are among the prominent politicians who were defeated in the NRM party structure polls at parish and sub-county level in the district.
Both Kityo and Kalema had expressed interest in vying for the Bukoto East Parliamentary seat on the NRM flag ticket in the forthcoming party primary polls. The duo is expected to tussle it out with former information and communications technology state minister Alintuma Nsambu.
Housewife beats kalema
Kityo lost to Richard Nkunyingi on 108 to 54 votes in the race for the NRM party sub-county NRM chairperson's office at Buwunga in Masaka district, where Kalema, lost to a housewife identified as Mary Goretti Kamukama Buwunga, parish, with 77 against 34 votes.
Unopposed
In Masaka City, the majority of the aspirants at the subcounty level sailed through unopposed after a consensus arrangement led by the city NRM party chairperson, Rogers Bulegeya.
Likewise, in Lwengo, District woman MP Cissy Namujju and the former investment minister Muyanja Mbabali teamed up with a list of candidates who sailed through unopposed, especially in Bukoto South Constituency.
Mbabali also declared his intentions to bounce back for the Bukoto East Parliamentary race, where he is expected to face NUP flag-bearer Dr Twaha Kagabo, among others, come the 2026 general election.
