Sam Kutesa, the NRM party chairperson for Sembabule District, has officially handed over the office to Major General (Rtd) Phinehas Katirima. Kutesa has served as the office bearer since the district's inception.
The handover took place on October 24 during a colourful ceremony at the district playground, which was attended by NRM party leaders and structure representatives from the district. Kutesa, who is also a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, marked the occasion with great enthusiasm.

During the event, Kutesa welcomed several supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) who decided to join the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. He emphasised the importance of peace and unity in Ssembabule district and warned against political conflicts based on ethnicity and religion.
Kutesa expressed his commitment to campaign for President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM party, stating, "I will set up camp here for two main purposes: to support President Museveni and to eliminate NUP from Ssembabule."

Accompanied by his daughter, Shartsi Musherure, the outgoing MP for Mawogola County in Ssembabule district, Kutesa appeared in high spirits as he celebrated significant achievements that have transformed Ssembabule since it was established as a district separate from Masaka in 1997.
Kutesa retired from elective politics in 2019 and introduced his daughter as his political successor. Musherure, who has served for one term since 2021, recently announced that she will not run for re-election in 2026, paving the way for Godfrey Aine Kaguta, also known as Sodo.

The incoming district NRM party chairperson, Gen. Katirima, invited Kutesa to continue serving and supporting the party as a senior adviser. He also mentioned that the party plans to construct the district NRM party headquarters, with an estimated cost of nearly sh200 million.
