📸 Here is what President Museveni promised Rukiga district electorate

“We extended power to Ntungamo, Kabale, Kisoro, and it reached Rwamucucu, where we are now,” he said, adding that the NRM government he has led for 40 years promised to electrify all districts countrywide, and the next step is to take it to every gombolola.

RUKIGA - President Yoweri Museveni, who is the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer, has promised to extend electricity to every gombolola (Sub County) to enable all people at the grassroots access and make use of power to develop themselves.

He said that by the time the NRM government came into power in 1986, electricity had stopped in Kasese in Western Uganda and Kabale, located in Kigezi sub-region, had only a small dam.

The president was Tuesday, November 25, 2025 speaking to supporters in Rukiga district in Kigezi during a campaign rally at Rwamucucu Playground, where he was received by chanting supporters mostly dressed in yellow.

He was accompanied by his daughter, Pastor Patience Rwabwogo and was received by leaders who included the NRM national vice chairman (female), Annet Anita Among, party secretary general Richard Todwong, and former prime minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda. Others were Ministers Chris Baryomunsi, Henry Musasizi, Central Executive Committee (CEC) members, including businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba, Adrien Kobusingye, Arinaitwe Kajara, Collins Tanga, among others.

“We extended power to Ntungamo, Kabale, Kisoro, and it reached Rwamucucu, where we are now,” he said, adding that the NRM government he has led for 40 years promised to electrify all districts countrywide, and the next step is to take it to every gombolola.

He promised to cover the remaining gap.

He, however, said that as the government builds infrastructure, it must also build manpower.

Museveni cited the example that Uganda needs more science teachers, not because those teaching arts are less important. “But because we must prioritise where the need is greatest”.

He told the supporters that the same approach applies to wealth creation. “We focus on what transforms lives like commercial agriculture, industries, services and Information, Computer and Technology. The principle remains to prioritise what builds the future,” he said.

Speaking at the same event, Dr. Rugunda appealed to voters to appreciate President Museveni for sacrificing his time and health to serve Uganda, East Africa and Africa at large.“We should thank him by voting for him overwhelmingly,” he said.

Dr. Rugunda explained that because of improved health services in the country, life expectancy for Ugandans had risen from 43 years to 68.

He said the NRM also introduced mass immunisation and reduced the infant mortality rate from 128 deaths per 1,000 to 28 per 1,000.

The president excited people when he walked towards a tent where Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda was standing to greet him.

The clergyman instead raised his arms and placed them on his head and prayed for him. This attracted a lot of applause since the prominent priest was known for being one of his biggest critics.

Earlier on, several artistes, both from Kampala and locals, entertained people. They included Weasel, Catherine Kusasira, Phinah Mugerwa aka Masanyalaze, Gravity Omutujju, and Ronald Mayinja, among others.
