Four candidates eying to replace the incumbent LC 5 Soroti district Simon Peter Edoru Ekuu have been duly nominated.

The nomination exercise, which ended on Friday, September 5, in Soroti district, was manned by Soroti district returning officer Joseph Mukwaya.

The nominees include Bob Owiny, the NRM flag bearer, Michael Osegge, independent, John Calvin Elenyu, FDC flag bearer and Vicent Enomu, Independent NRM leaning.

Speaking to
New Vision online after nominations, Owiny pledged to promote service delivery in the district through lobbying from the government and other development partners.

Owiny said the district is faced with numerous challenges in terms of service delivery in most of the sectors, especially health, roads and education, affecting livelihoods.

"The district is currently operating without a district hospital, contrary to the government policy, and this is something I will follow up on during my leadership," said Owiny.

John Calvin Elenyu, who is vying for the LC 5 seat on the FDC ticket, said he has three key priorities he intends to address if elected, with particular focus on uniting the district.

“There has been persistent disunity among leaders of Soroti district, and division has been affecting service delivery,” Elenyu said.

Elenyu, who contested in the 2021 polls and lost to incumbent LC5 chairman Simon Peter Edoru Ekuu, believes that he is experienced enough to unite and develop the district.

Michael Osegge, who is contesting on an independent ticket, said service delivery in Soroti district is wanting something he wants to address.

Meanwhile, Vicent Enomu, who lost in the NRM primaries to Bob Owiny and is now contesting as an independent NRM-leaning, says Soroti district needs a tested leader, describing himself as one.
