Former Moyo district speaker elected LC1 chairperson

Former Moyo District Local Government speaker Emmanuael Amoko has been elected the new Local Council One (LC1) chairperson for Metu Quarter village, Elenderea Parish in Moyo town council.
Amoko, who contested as an independent candidate, was declared winner on July 28, 2026, after securing 96 votes against incumbent Jane Battio, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, who obtained 22 votes.
Speaking to Arua One FM after the polls closed, Amoko thanked voters for entrusting him with the office of LC1 chairperson for the next five years.
He unveiled plans to move residents from subsistence to the money economy by mobilising them for various government programmes and ensuring orderliness is restored.
“I have so many plans that, from tomorrow onwards, I will sit with my committee to see that we deliver and see how the village can move from subsistence to a money economy, because we are a village within town; we need orderly settlement, so I believe through these government programs with a capable leader all this will be achieved.
Anifa Kalisum, a voter in Metu Quarter village, said they expect the new LC1 chairperson to mobilise meetings and hold several engagements to address community issues, especially drug abuse among young people.

“We are really expecting the new chairperson to cooperate with us, hold regular meetings to discuss development of the village, something that has been missing for over five years," said Anifa.
Sunday Candiru, another voter, expressed hope that the new leader would promote development in the village without segregation.
“I am so excited that we have finally obtained change in leadership of the village; we are hopeful that the community will be united with the support of the new chairperson without favouritism,” she noted.
Moyo district generally had peaceful elections, although voter turnout was low.
