FDC legislator 'raids' Museveni campaign rally in Amolatar

Kioga County MP, Moses Okot Bitek, of the opposition (Forum for Democratic Change- FDC), on Wednesday turned heads when he arrived "raided" at President Yoweri Museveni's rally in Amolatar.
Because the party to which he subscribes has often shunned events of this nature, Bitek defended himself, saying such liberalism is needed if one is to survive in this political terrain.
The rally at Amolatar Secondary School playgrounds is President Museveni's first rally in the Lango sub-region and the second in the country, who is seeking re-election in the national polls next year.
Museveni, who was elected unopposed by the ruling party National Resistance Movement the NRM presidential flagbearer, is facing seven other opponents, including Nathan Nandala Mafabi of FDC.
"True, I'm FDC and I've come to the NRM rally. In this region, people are not elected on a party basis. I am here on meritocracy, and the people asked me to come here. I came with many supporters. They asked me to come and tell the truth to the power and walk away. That is it, I don't have to dine with them," he said in an interview after he was besieged by journalists.
Whereas Bitek says this is the right time to ask President Yoweri Museveni several pertinent issues that are hurting residents, his presence at the Museveni campaign rally is likely to put him on a collision course with the Najjanankumbi party (FDC) leadership.
Key among the issues he wants the President to address include the mistreatment of fishermen operating on Lake Kyoga, the whereabouts of compensation for members of auxiliary forces that fought Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels, and cattle compensation in the Lango sub-region.
"Two, we expect the President to honour the social contract arrangement they had with Amuka militia and vigilantes who fought and brought peace here, and they have never been paid," he stated.
President Yoweri Museveni, an NRM Party presidential candidate for the 2026 elections in Lango sub-region, is expected to address voters in Amolatar district.
