EC starts handling LC1 complaints

KAMPALA - The Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, has announced that the commission has started handling complaints regarding Local Council (LC) 1 nominations.
He made remarks during a press conference at the Commission headquarters in Kampala today (July 22).
"The Commission will commence hearing complaints today, Wednesday July 22, 2026, and will inform the stakeholders of the respective decisions and appropriate lawful actions taken," Byabakama told journalists.
Byabakama said: "The commission appeals for patience from the public and all stakeholders as it commences to hear and determine the various complaints arising from the registration and the nomination exercises."

The campaigns for LC elections commenced on Monday July 20, 2026, and will be concluded today, Wednesday July 22, 2026.
The EC has set July 23, 2026, as the polling day for Women Council Elections across Uganda, while the LC1 elections will be held on July 28, 2026, across the over 71,000 villages countrywide.
According to Byabakama, voting will be conducted by open queue system, with voters lining up behind their preferred candidates, their designated agents, or candidates’ portraits.
