MAWOGOLA - The Electoral Commission (EC) has escalated a challenge over the academic credentials of a Mawogola North parliamentary seat candidate to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).
The move follows a formal petition by rival candidate Jet Tumwebaze, who claims National Resistance Movement party flag-bearer Godfrey Aine Kaguta aka Sodo's educational documents are questionable.
EC central southern region officer Harriet Kashangire confirmed the referral, stating the commission lacks authority to verify academic authenticity.
“The EC does not have the mandate to probe academic credentials or determine their validity; UNEB will handle this,” she said.
Tumwebaze, a Kampala-based lawyer and resident of Ssembabule district’s Lugusulu sub-county, filed the petition on October 23, 2025, after Sodo’s nomination.
